Velma: Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Rendy Jones Autostraddle It’s painful to see the first POC-led, queer-inclusive version of a long-standing franchise end up its worst. But this is one soon-to-be canceled queer show that won’t be missed. Velma is great. Adam R I wasn't sure what to expect with this show. I knew it would be more adult. Season 1 didn't leave much of an impression. I decided to give Season 2 a try. I was definitely entertained. I dont hate this show as much as most seem to. I will give season 3 a watch. If they decide to make one. Scooby Doo? Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review Finn L I didn't hate it as much as most people, and as a simple vehicle for zingers, accompanying a mostly nonsensical plot, it is at least mildly entertaining. If this concept dies due to lack of popularity, then at the very least I hope the writers and animation studio get a crack at putting out another show. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Connor M Season 2 is somehow worse. All the characters have no character arch, except Fred. The writing is so bad, because they make out that we should hate rich people in the first season and now Fred is more likable than all the characters we are supposed to like. Scrappy Doo is written so bad, the iconic lines he says in the original series are delivered 1000 times worse here. His motives for being the muderer is just the worst, as he is never prone to actually killing anyone in the original series. This show is a mistake, burn it with fire Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/24 Full Review Andreas H I honestly thoroughly enjoyed Velma: Season 2. It felt a bit less mean spirited than season 1, had clever writing including way better references this time and a few nice twists. Thing is, you really have to see it as both a very dark humoured parody as well as a hommage to Scooby Doo. I hear people say its against everything Scooby Doo stands for, but I see it as a test for how serious you take things. If you hold Scooby Doo up as like a holy thing that should never get a sarcastic interpretation and if you hate queer content or comments about sexism in any way, of course you'll feel offended. If not, you won't feel hurt and most likely enjoy this crazy ride.I personally see this as its own universe, an unhinged interpretation that leaves the original characters untouched. And so, I don't feel offended at all, and I have a really fun time with it. I mean it's so batshoot crazy, it technically shouldn't be able to exist. But it does! I doubt we'll ever get such an unhingd interpretation of the franchise, so I won't miss out if another season comes. But well, that won't convice anyone who long has made up their mind about this show. So in short: if you enjoyed S1, there's a good chance you will enjoy S2, mabe even more than the first. I know I did. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/14/24 Full Review Audience Member As a fan of the original series I am disappointed this series has a low rating . The animation and art is wonderful, the mix of different styles of cartoons, the homage to the original Scooby Doo series in re-creating specific moments from past episodes and/or leaning into the original portrayal of the characters in woven moments. The writing sets up scenes that are obviously comedic parodies or a satirical/ social commentary on an issue, and the show makes fun of common tropes in society while also having hilarity in creating wacky, fantastical, and far fetched storylines that are tied together with a overarching linear, mystery themed plot.
