Former opener Aakash Chopra expressed concern over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s below par performance in the ongoing India vs South Africa Test series. Stating that the southpaw is no longer an inexperienced campaigner, he added that the opener’s constant struggle against left-arm pace is worrisome. Ad Jaiswal was dismissed for 13 on Day 4 of the second Test against South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, November 25. He was caught behind attempting a cut shot off Marco Jansen. Chasing an improbable 549 for victory, India went to stumps at 27-2, with KL Rahul (6) also back in the hut. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra expressed disappointment over Jaiswal’s inability to step up as a key batter in regular skipper Shubman Gill’s absence. The former India batter commented: Ad Trending “If we talk about transition, Yashasvi is not a part of that inexperienced batting line-up anymore. He made his debut 2-3 years ago. He is among players who has score more runs for India recently, so I am a little worried.” The 48-year-old also opined that Jaiswal seems to be playing the cut when the ball is too close to his body, which is getting him into trouble. He elaborated: Ad “He has been getting out in the same way against left-arm pacers. So, that is a problem. Anyone can get out at any time, but he got out attempting the cut thrice against Marco Jansen. The cut may be his productive stroke, but it is also letting him down. He is cutting balls that are too close to the body and is trying to hit it very hard. He needs to check his shot selection in terms of line.” Ad Before his dismissal for 13 against Jansen on Tuesday, Jaiswal had registered scores of 12, 0 & 58 in his three previous innings in the series. “Doesn’t have a big score” Aakash Chopra on KL Rahul’s poor returns in IND vs SA 2025 Tests While Jaiswal had a poor series with the willow against South Africa, his opening partner Rahul fared even worse. He ended the series with 68 runs in four innings, with a best of 39. In the second innings in Guwahati, Rahul was bowled by Simon Harmer as he looked to flick a tossed up delivery across the line. Questioning the senior batter’s lack of application, Chopra commented: Ad “KL Rahul has also not scored runs. He spent time at the crease in a couple of innings, but doesn’t have a big score. In the second innings, the ball was turning and he did not even present the full face of the bat. Not ideal. The ball was turning. But, Tristan Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder also batted against the turning ball.” At stumps on Day 4 in Guwahati, Sai Sudharsan was batting on two and Kuldeep Yadav on four. India are 1-0 down in the two-match Test series. × Feedback Why did you not like this content?
