Melissa McCarthy is set to return as host of “Saturday Night Live” this December. During this week’s episode, it was revealed that McCarthy will lead the NBC sketch comedy series alongside musical guest Dijon on December 6.
This marks McCarthy’s sixth time hosting the show and her first time returning to the role since 2017. She is well-known for her multiple appearances on “SNL,” including memorable cameos as former Trump press secretary Sean Spicer. McCarthy’s work on the show has earned her six Emmy nominations, and she won the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2017.
Musical guest Dijon will be making his “SNL” debut during the December 6 episode, adding fresh energy to the iconic late-night series.
“SNL” recently wrapped up its historic 50th season, celebrated with a Peacock documentary series and a three-hour special that featured numerous former cast members and A-list guests. The show’s 51st season launched in October with Bad Bunny as host and musical guest Doja Cat. Following shows have been hosted by Amy Poehler, Sabrina Carpenter, Miles Teller, Nikki Glaser, and Glen Powell.
As Season 51 gets underway, several cast members have departed, including Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, Devon Walker, and Michael Longfellow. Meanwhile, new talents Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska have joined the cast, bringing fresh perspectives to the show.
“SNL” has already made a strong impression at the 2025 Emmy Awards, earning seven nominations. Additionally, its spinoffs—such as “The Anniversary Celebration,” “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert,” “Beyond Saturday Night,” and “50 Years of SNL Music”—have collectively garnered 23 nominations.
With Melissa McCarthy’s return and Dijon’s debut, fans can look forward to an exciting episode of “Saturday Night Live” on December 6.
