**NHL Update: Daemon Hunt and David Jiricek Reunited on Wild’s Blue Line**

Nearly a year ago, defenseman Daemon Hunt was traded to Columbus as part of the package for defenseman David Jiricek, with no “player to be named later” involved. Now, about fifty weeks later, Hunt and Jiricek are skating as defensive partners on the Minnesota Wild’s blue line — one of the more unusual stories in recent NHL transactions.

Twenty-three-year-old Hunt, who spends summers in Calgary, played his fifth game for the Wild on Saturday against Anaheim. He spent most of last season in the AHL with Columbus’s minor league affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters. Heading into the matchup with the Ducks, he had one assist in four games and had made a favorable impression since cracking the Wild lineup after an injury sidelined veteran defenseman Zach Bogosian.

“He’s a player. He always has been. And I don’t think anyone here is surprised that he stepped in and has been doing what he’s doing,” said Wild defenseman Brock Faber after a recent practice. “He’s always so solid. He’s physically strong. He skates well, and he just makes right decision after right decision after right decision.”

Drafted in the third round in 2020 by the Wild, Hunt played 13 NHL games with Minnesota before being traded last year to Columbus alongside three draft picks in exchange for Jiricek. Hunt played 48 games for Cleveland last season and attended Columbus’s training camp this season trying to earn a roster spot.

On October 3, after Columbus placed Hunt on waivers intending to send him back to Cleveland, Wild general manager Bill Guerin reclaimed Hunt, bringing him back to the organization that gave him his NHL opportunity.

After spending much of October as a healthy scratch, Hunt has shown determination to stick with the team. “It’s kind of rewarding. It feels like I’m more part of the team. And it feels really good to play in front of all the fans again,” Hunt said. “I’m happy with my performance. Just trying to get better every game.”

A notable development is the growing chemistry between Hunt and Jiricek when paired on the ice. A month ago, their only connection was the trade sheet; now, they have developed a working relationship.

“It’s actually fine. We got a good laugh about it,” Hunt said. “When I met [Jiricek’s] girlfriend, I was like, ‘I’m the guy he got traded for, and now we’re teammates.’ It’s quite the story.”

**Briefly**
The Wild made some roster moves before facing the Ducks on Saturday. Defenseman David Spacek, called up on November 10, was sent back to Iowa. Forwards Tyler Pitlick and Liam Ohgren were recalled to the NHL team.

Spacek is yet to make his NHL debut. Pitlick has played nine games this season without recording a point and was ejected from his most recent game on November 6 against the Hurricanes for an illegal head hit. Ohgren, who started the season with the Wild, has been playing in Iowa since and is pursuing his first NHL point this season.
