EXCLUSIVE: Kanu Behl BREAKS silence on Agra CBFC cuts: “Got NO pushback from Censors; they were really nice to us…they asked me to cut 3 nudity shows; I convinced them about 2 after which only 1 shot was deleted”

2 days ago, Bollywood Hungama reported that *Agra*, a rare Hindi film featuring frontal nudity, faced cuts from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The scenes involving frontal nudity and abusive language were removed, after which the makers were granted an ‘A’ certificate.

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to director Kanu Behl following the limited number of shows for *Agra* in cinemas across the country. We also asked him to comment on the censor cuts.

“I got NO pushback from Censors; they were really nice to us. They asked me to cut 3 nudity shots; I convinced them about 2 and only 1 shot was ultimately deleted,” Kanu Behl revealed.

Kanu said, “I can comment only in the context of my film. Thankfully, I faced no resistance from the Censors. In fact, they were very supportive and loved the film. All the changes were made by me personally. The board asked me to cut out 3 specific shots. They told me, ‘We love the film. We don’t want to cut anything, but we are giving you an adults-only certificate. Today, even with an adult rating, you cannot have nudity and profanity.’”

He continued, “They asked me to cut 3 nudity shots. I managed to talk to them and explain the importance of two of those scenes, leading to minor alterations. As a result, only one shot was deleted. The abusive language was also removed, which I did not object to because I didn’t want to fight that battle—it is a much bigger structural issue. The Committee was upfront about it, and I appreciate that honesty.”

When asked about his next project, Kanu Behl responded, “It’s too early to talk about my next film. I’m not going to give up. I want to keep fighting for more shows for *Agra*. First, I want to ensure this film gets the space it deserves. I also want to start a conversation about independent cinema in general. The current system is designed to favor a monopoly of safe, infantilized films pandering to mass entertainment. Gradually, that is becoming the only promoted space, and anything outside that zone is excluded.”
