Google’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 devices are reportedly no longer receiving monthly updates, according to Droid Life, which has been monitoring a shift in the update cadence. While Google remains committed to providing updates throughout the entire support cycle, this commitment apparently no longer guarantees regular monthly updates.

### Older Phones Left Out of the Fun

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro missed the July update, received the August and September updates, but have now gone without the October and November updates. It appears that these models, along with the Pixel 6a, have been shifted to a quarterly update schedule.

Similarly, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro did not receive the November update, which was released recently, suggesting that Google is deprioritizing these devices as well.

### A Shift From Monthly Updates

This change is notable because Google has historically been known for rolling out updates to its Pixel devices every month. When questioned about the reduced update frequency for the Pixel 6, Google provided a vague response. The company emphasized that supported devices will continue to receive security fixes, Pixel Drops, and the latest operating system versions for the entire duration of their support timeline. However, they did not explicitly guarantee monthly updates.

Although the Pixel 6 and 7 are guaranteed five years of updates, the pace of these updates was never explicitly defined. This grants Google the flexibility to space out updates as it sees fit.

### Breaking Expectations

This shift diverges from the expectations set by Google for its Pixel phones. One of the main draws of Pixel devices is that Google controls both hardware and software, offering the advantage of regular monthly updates. For many users, this consistent update cycle has been a key part of the Pixel experience.

### Community Reaction

When asked about how Pixel 6 and 7 users feel about this change, responses were split evenly:

– No, I saw it coming. – 33%
– Yes, there’s no reason they should do this. – 33%
– Angry enough to switch. – 33%

### Don’t Be Impatient

Although the November update was released recently, the chances of it arriving on Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 devices are slim. Google’s official update page does not list these devices for the November update, making its arrival unlikely.

That said, some features included in the November 2025 Pixel Drop are reportedly supported on Pixel 6 and newer models. There is a possibility that these features could be rolled out in the December update for Pixel 6 and 7 users, so those devices have not been entirely forgotten.
