Sony reports 84.2 million PS5 console units have been sold since launch

The PlayStation 5 continues to be an immensely popular console, with Sony reporting sales of nearly 4 million units in the second quarter of its 2025 fiscal year. This brings the lifetime sales total to just over 84 million units.

Sony released its Q2 2025 earnings report earlier than expected on November 10, 2025. The report provided insight into the company’s performance during the quarter, revealing that the PlayStation 5 sold 3.9 million units in Q2 alone. This marks an increase from the 3.8 million units sold in Q2 of fiscal year 2024, representing a growth of approximately 100,000 units.

The company experienced a similar quarterly improvement between Q1 FY2024 and Q1 FY2025, highlighting steady growth in console sales over time.

However, the report also noted a decrease in the number of monthly active users on the PlayStation Network, which dropped from 123 million in Q1 to 119 million in Q2. Despite this decline in active users, first-party software sales increased by 1 million compared to Q2 FY2024, indicating strong demand for exclusive titles.

Overall, the PlayStation 5 remains a strong performer for Sony, with consistent sales growth and robust software sales supporting its continued success.
