The Best Beers In Canada—Winners Of The 2025 Canada Beer Cup

**2025 Canada Beer Cup Winners Announced at Gala in Quebec City**

The winners of the 2025 Canada Beer Cup were announced on November 10, 2025, at a gala held in Quebec City, Quebec. Alongside the main event, the best beers in Canada were also celebrated at satellite watch parties hosted in brewery taprooms across the country.

Canada boasts nearly 1,400 breweries serving a population of fewer than 42 million people, which means it has more breweries per capita than the United States. While America is often credited as the birthplace of the modern craft beer movement, Canada’s craft beer landscape is fiercely competitive.

As a reflection of this competitiveness, Canada hosts two national beer competitions: the Canadian Brewing Awards, founded in 2000, and the Canada Beer Cup, established more recently in 2022. In comparison, America’s most prestigious beer competition is the Great American Beer Festival.

Both Canadian competitions are highly respected by brewers and consumers alike. Breweries that win awards at either or both competitions are quick to celebrate their achievements.

Despite being only in its fourth edition, the Canada Beer Cup has already surpassed the Canadian Brewing Awards to become the country’s largest beer competition. The 2025 event saw a record number of entries, with over 1,800 beers from more than 300 breweries representing every province and territory of Canada competing for medals.

For the first time, the Canada Beer Cup included awards for cider, divided into five categories, reflecting the growing interest and quality of Canadian cider offerings.

### About the Canada Beer Cup

The Canada Beer Cup is organized by the Canadian Craft Brewers Association (CCBA), which comprises representatives from provincial brewing associations across Canada. The CCBA advocates for the interests of Canada’s commercial craft breweries through lobbying, advocacy, and education.

Hilary Hoogsteen, Competition Director of the Canada Beer Cup, commented via telephone:
“A number of beer competitions around the world are seeing reduced numbers of entries, but we are building a strong brand. The breweries in Canada are supporting our not-for-profit advocacy efforts. They know that by supporting our competition, we can advocate on their behalf.”

Hoogsteen also emphasized the importance of judging quality at the competition. “We were very proud that every one of the Best of Show judges were Grandmaster judges,” she said. “I believe that’s a first for Canada.”

### Best Beer in Canada

Interestingly, the beer chosen as the best in Canada by the five Grandmaster judges was from Quebec, the host province for the awards gala. *Flacatoune*, brewed by MicroBrasserie Charlevoix in Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, took home the Best in Show Gold medal. The brewery was co-founded by Frédérick Tremblay, who was the first Quebec representative on the CCBA board.

Judging at the Canada Beer Cup is conducted blind, ensuring that the awards are given fairly and purely on merit.
