Alvin Kamara injury: What status means for Week 10 vs. Panthers

The 1-7 New Orleans Saints will travel to face the 5-4 Carolina Panthers this week as 5.5-point underdogs. The Saints recently traded away wide receiver Rashid Shaheed and will trot out Tyler Shough at quarterback, continuing one of the tankiest seasons you’ll see.

Once a superstar, running back Alvin Kamara continues to lead the backfield in an offense where he isn’t likely to get much help during his declining years. This week, he is once again questionable with an ankle injury. Kamara’s usual practice-week routine involves being limited each day before receiving a questionable tag due to the injury. The question remains: does his ankle truly hurt, or is this just a way to manage his workload and give him rest as he ages?

If rookie Kendre Miller hadn’t been lost for the season to injury, he’d probably be seeing significant work in the backfield by now. Since Miller’s absence, rookie Devin Neal has stepped up, handling 46% and 39% of the running back snaps over the last two games.

Kamara himself hasn’t topped 15 touches since Week 4 and has recorded only 8 and 7 touches in the past two weeks. At this point, he is teetering on the edge of needing to be benched in most fantasy leagues.
