Ben Shelton Weighs In on Player Dispute with the Slams Over Welfare and Prize Money Negotiations
Ben Shelton recently commented on the ongoing dispute between top tennis players and the Grand Slam organizers regarding delays in welfare and prize money negotiations for lower-ranked players. The American tennis star is currently scheduled to compete at the ATP Finals, set to take place from November 9 to 16, 2025, in Turin.
Top-ranked men’s and women’s players, including Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek, had submitted a proposal to the organizers of all four major tournaments. Their suggestions included a potential increase in the revenue-sharing percentage, enhanced player welfare measures, and other improvements. Following this proposal, several meetings took place between the Slams and the players. However, negotiations stalled during the summer and have yet to resume.
On November 8, Shelton participated in a pre-tournament press conference alongside Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev. When asked about his thoughts on the ongoing dispute, Shelton responded:
“I think dispute is a strong word for sure. But for us, I know that as players, we see things that are important to us at times. And I know that as players, we’re not greedy people. We’re not looking ever for more than we feel we deserve or that we feel is fair. I think that also this group of players that we have right now is always going to speak up when they see things that are out of line or a little bit off from where they should be.”
Reflecting on His 2025 Season at the Paris Masters
Ben Shelton’s latest tournament appearance was at the Paris Masters, where he reached the quarterfinals. There, he faced Jannik Sinner but was defeated 6-3, 6-3. Amid his Paris Masters run, the World No. 6 spoke with Tennis TV about his 2025 season so far:
“For me, it hasn’t been all straightforward. It hasn’t been just winning all the time. There have been times where I’ve played really well, there’s been times where I haven’t played so well and had to get myself out of a slump. I think that’s just tennis. It’s a roller coaster. For me to be able to find my great tennis more consistently later in the year has always been a great thing for me.”
Upcoming Match at the ATP Finals
In the opening match of the ATP World Tour Finals, Ben Shelton is scheduled to face Alexander Zverev on November 10 at the Inalpi Arena. Tennis fans will be eagerly watching to see how Shelton performs on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
