Star almost gave up on wrestling before WWE return

A star has revealed that he almost gave up on a wrestling career before returning to WWE. Lately, fans have seen many wrestlers make sensational returns to the promotion and start new chapters in their careers. The same thing happened with former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, aka Raj Dhesi.

After making his television debut for WWE in 2011, Mahal struggled in the mid-card and was part of the 3MB stable alongside Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater. He was eventually released from his contract in 2014. It was during this time that the Canadian-born wrestler contemplated whether he should continue wrestling.

During an interview on Click and Tell, Mahal revealed that he was at a crossroads in his career before WWE called him back.

> “I had realized, like, either I’m going to have to commit, or I got to do something else with my life, like, I’m going to have to change career paths. It was the crossroads. So, I was like, you know what? Let me give it one last shot.”

He added,
> “And when I had decided I wasn’t back with WWE, I was still an independent wrestler. It just changed everything. It was literally like one month after WWE called me to come back.”

Mahal was re-signed by the sports entertainment giant in 2016 and placed on RAW. He revealed that he was initially brought back just to fill roster space, not to eventually become WWE Champion — an achievement that happened in 2017.

He mentioned that 10 months prior to this career-defining win, he wasn’t signed with anybody and was considering “opening up a business or something.”

### Jinder Mahal Released from WWE Again in 2024

Jinder Mahal’s second stint with the Stamford-based promotion was far more fruitful than his first run. He won the WWE Championship by defeating Randy Orton and successfully defended the title against him on two occasions. Mahal held the championship for nearly six months before dropping it to AJ Styles.

In addition, Mahal captured the United States Championship at WrestleMania 34, winning a Fatal Four-Way match against Robert Roode, Rusev, and Orton.

Later in his career, he also feuded with notable stars like Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins before his release from the company in 2024.
