BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors and wife dissolve joint biz, sell home as org reportedly in DOJ crosshairs

**BLM Co-Founder Patrisse Cullors and Wife Dissolve Joint Business, Sell Home Amid DOJ Investigation**

Details about the recent personal moves involving Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder Patrisse Cullors and her wife have surfaced amid reports that the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation is under scrutiny by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The foundation, which Cullors helped establish, is reportedly being investigated for possibly defrauding donors out of tens of millions of dollars during the racial-justice protests of 2020.

Though it remains unclear who exactly the DOJ is targeting in the probe, sources told The Associated Press that subpoenas and at least one search warrant have been issued in recent weeks.

Cullors abruptly resigned from the organization in 2021 amid widespread criticism over her lavish lifestyle and a spree of million-dollar real estate acquisitions. One property that drew particular attention was a sprawling Toronto mansion purchased by the Toronto-based nonprofit M4BJ, which was founded by Cullors’ wife, Janaya Khan, along with other Canadian activists in 2021.

Records show that Black Lives Matter transferred millions of dollars to this Canadian charity to facilitate the purchase of the Toronto property.

Patrisse Cullors, a 42-year-old artist whose work focuses on “the trauma of being Black in America, and also our resilience,” did not respond to requests for comment. Similarly, Khan, who is in her 30s, has remained silent on the matter. The current status of their personal relationship is also unclear.

Cullors, who has a son, and Khan were married in 2016. However, the couple dissolved their joint LLC, Janaya and Patrisse Consulting, in 2023. Additionally, Cullors has stopped using “Khan” as part of her hyphenated last name.

In another notable development, Khan transferred her share of their jointly owned home—valued at over $1.4 million and located on Topanga Canyon Road near Malibu, California—to Cullors prior to the property’s sale in September 2024, according to public records.
