GDQ’s Rae ‘Raeclun’ Brusky talks about what led to Games Done Queer

Games Done Quick has grown significantly beyond its two biannual mainline marathons. In addition to its regular Hotfix shows, Games Done Quick has expanded to include two week-long Fatales marathons, a weekend TwitchCon marathon, and celebrations of Black speedrunners with Black in a Flash.

This weekend, for the first time, GDQ will be celebrating its LGBTQIA+ community with Games Done Queer, a weekend marathon showcasing queer runners across the gaming space. To learn more, I spoke with Rae “Raeclun” Brusky prior to the start of this special event. Brusky shared insights on the formation of Games Done Queer, what inspired its creation, the collaboration with Lambda Legal, and the crucial timing of the marathon weekend.

He also highlighted some of the runs to watch over the next few days, including the exciting final run that spotlights the Kaizo Mario community—an intense and skilled segment of speedrunners known for their challenging playstyles.

Games Done Quick is coming off several exciting marathon successes. Most recently, the team participated in Games Done Quick Express at TwitchCon, raising $31,076 for World Central Kitchen. Prior to that, the women and femmes of GDQ held Flame Fatales and raised $151,336 for the Malala Fund.

Of course, the mainline GDQ marathon events continue to make a major impact. Summer Games Done Quick 2025 alone raised over $2.4 million for Doctors Without Borders, further cementing GDQ’s role as a powerhouse in the speedrunning and charity communities.

With Games Done Queer, GDQ is once again expanding its reach and inclusivity, bringing the diverse gaming community together for a meaningful cause and unforgettable runs.
