Tips, weapons, missions & how to play – Battlefield 6: REDSEC

Battlefield 6 REDSEC Mode Guide

Battlefield 6 introduces a new mode called REDSEC, a thrilling battle royale experience packed with multiple game modes, weapon rarity tiers, optional missions, and the signature encroaching ring of fire. Whether you’re new to REDSEC or looking to brush up on your skills, this guide will cover everything from general tips and gameplay mechanics to reviving and mission strategies.

What is REDSEC?

REDSEC is a free-to-play battle royale mode within Battlefield 6. Players drop into a large map, scavenge for weapons, complete optional missions to earn powerful gear, and fight other players — all while being forced into shrinking zones surrounded by a deadly ring of fire. The match ends when only one player or team remains standing.

After selecting REDSEC, you will choose one of three main versions:

  • Gauntlet: Focus on completing objectives—your mission completion determines survival. Keep completing missions until your team is the last one alive.
  • Duos: Classic battle royale with teams of two players each; 50 teams total.
  • Squads: Classic battle royale with four-player teams; 25 teams total.

What Should I Do First in REDSEC?

Your ultimate goal in REDSEC is to be the last person or team alive. Every action you take should move you closer to this goal. Here’s a simple step-by-step approach:

  1. Land in an area with zero or very few other teams to avoid early conflict.
  2. Search crates and containers for weapons and gear (grenades, airstrikes, etc.).
  3. Select and complete optional missions to earn powerful additional gear.
  4. Keep moving to stay inside the safe zone, avoiding the deadly ring of fire as it shrinks.
  5. Engage in combat when necessary, or strategically avoid fights to survive longer.

As the circle shrinks, it will leave barely enough space for two teams. Always try to maintain a strong gear loadout by scavenging or completing missions while managing encounters with enemy players.

How Weapons & Gear Work in REDSEC

You begin each REDSEC match with only a pistol and a knife. The scramble begins immediately to find weapons that fit your preferred playstyle and class. Each weapon has a rarity rating based on color:

  • Common: Gray
  • Uncommon: Green
  • Rare: Blue
  • Advanced: Purple
  • Superior: Gold
  • Personal Favorite: Red

Weapons climb the rarity scale as they gain attachments, which improve their performance. You don’t have to rely purely on luck to get high-tier weapons—there are methods to upgrade your guns from green to blue and beyond. Keep an eye out for weapon containers spread throughout the map, including crates, safes, and vehicle trunks.

Choosing a weapon compatible with your class is crucial — for instance, an Assault player won’t benefit much from a sniper rifle.

What Are Red Guns?

Red guns represent your personal favorite weapon loadouts that you’ve customized outside of matches. These are weapons upgraded and tweaked with preferred attachments in Battlefield 6’s main multiplayer mode.

To obtain a red weapon in REDSEC, look for Custom Weapon Drops on the map. These appear as torpedo-like pods emerging from the ground. Interact with them to select from your list of favorite weapons. Depending on the upgrade level, a red weapon may outperform or underperform compared to purple or gold weapons.

What Class Should I Play in REDSEC?

When launching REDSEC, you’ll select from different classes, each offering unique tools, abilities, and weapon proficiencies. For example, the Engineer class starts with a blowtorch that can open safes.

In squad play, having a balanced team with diverse classes is ideal to cover various tactical needs.

How Does Reviving Work?

When you lose all your armor and health, you fall to the ground and enter a downed state. You can crawl to a safe spot where an ally can revive you before your timer runs out. Enemies can also finish you off by continuing to shoot while you’re down.

REDSEC features a forgiving revive system in the early minutes of a match. If you die early, you can parachute back into the fight and rejoin your squad. However, as the match progresses, the “second chances” expire. At this point, if you die, revival becomes more challenging.

Once second chances run out, allies must take you to a redeploy point to revive you. Redeploying takes time and alerts nearby players with a respawn alarm, making the process riskier.

What Are Missions?

Every few minutes, REDSEC presents players with optional missions to choose from. Completing a mission rewards you with an airdrop containing powerful weapons, special equipment like airstrikes, or keycards that grant access to vehicles such as tanks.

Missions typically involve traveling to specific locations to destroy objects, carry items, transmit data, or other objectives. On-screen markers and brief instructions guide you through each mission. Be prepared for PvP encounters during these tasks, as other players may be pursuing the same objectives.

With these insights into REDSEC, you’ll be better equipped to survive, thrive, and ultimately claim victory in Battlefield 6’s latest battle royale experience. Good luck out there!
