This 1950 MG TD is a well-preserved classic that boasts a unique ownership history and charming period features. Originally, the car remained with a Department of Defense employee in New Mexico until 1987. That year, it was acquired by a California couple and relocated to the state, where it stayed under their care for the next 38 years. In 2025, the current seller took ownership of this timeless British roadster.
Finished in a classic ivory paint, the MG TD features a tan folding soft top over green vinyl upholstery, perfectly capturing the vintage aesthetic. The exterior details include a louvered hood, folding windshield, wind wings, running boards, rear luggage rack, and chrome bumpers with overriders. The 15″ steel wheels wear MG-branded hubcaps wrapped in older 165-width Signet SB-802 tires. A spare wheel and tire are mounted on the rear, though the spare is missing its hubcap.
The car’s body shows signs of its age, with some blemishes noted on the front MG badge, dents on the grille, various paint scratches, and an indentation behind the rear bumper. Additionally, rust is present near the running board and fender joints on the right side. The wiper motor is currently inoperative, and rubber wiper blades are missing.
Under the hood, the MG TD is powered by its original 1,250cc XPAG inline-four engine, factory rated at 54 horsepower and featuring dual SU carburetors. The current owner has undertaken maintenance including cleaning the carburetors and fuel system, as well as replacing the battery, fuel pump, and fuel lines. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The four-wheel drum brakes were also serviced in preparation for sale.
Inside the cabin, the car houses a split bench seat trimmed in green vinyl with matching door panels, carpet, and dash. The interior amenities include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, passenger-side grab handle, and wind wings. Some areas of the carpet are missing, and the tachometer is disconnected with the inset clock covered. A five-digit odometer reads just 11,000 miles, with fewer than 50 miles added since the current owner acquired the vehicle.
Instrumentation consists of a banjo-style steering wheel on an adjustable column, framing a Jaeger 100-mph speedometer, 6,500-rpm tachometer, and centrally mounted gauges for oil pressure and amperage.
Included with the car are an owner’s manual, a collection of partial service records dating back to 1974, a jack, and a set of tools. The car holds a California title in the seller’s name, ready for its next chapter with a classic car enthusiast.
