Titans activate T’Vondre Sweat off IR for Week 7

After a 1-5 start to the season, the Tennessee Titans made a significant change by firing head coach Brian Callahan following a 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. In response, the team appointed former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Mike McCoy as the interim head coach. McCoy, who served as a senior offensive assistant under Callahan, now prepares to lead the Titans into his first game in charge.

In some positive news ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the New England Patriots, the Titans activated nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat off injured reserve, as reported by Ian Rapoport on Saturday afternoon. Sweat, a 2024 second-round pick, had been sharing time with veteran Shy Tuttle at nose tackle. Having both players available in the defensive line rotation is expected to bolster Tennessee’s defense.

The Week 7 game holds additional significance as former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel now leads the Patriots into Nashville. The rivalry adds extra motivation for Tennessee, a team eager to secure just their second win of the 2025 season.

The big question remains: Can Mike McCoy turn things around for the Titans? This will be McCoy’s first head coaching role since 2016. During his four seasons with the Chargers (when the franchise was still in San Diego), he compiled a 28-38 record. His most successful year came in 2013, when he led the team to the playoffs, advancing to the Divisional Round before being eliminated by an AFC West rival, the Denver Broncos.

Now, McCoy faces the challenge of reviving a struggling Titans squad and steering them back toward winning ways—at least for the remainder of the season. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if he can make an immediate impact.
