Lori Loughlin’s decision to end her 28-year marriage to designer Mossimo Giannulli reached a “tipping point” after she discovered “incriminating” text messages on his phone, RadarOnline.com can reveal.
The *Full House* alum, 61, has yet to file for divorce from her 62-year-old husband but is currently taking a break from their marriage.
### Giannulli ‘Used’ Loughlin for Years, Friend Says
A close friend revealed that Lori’s choice to pull the plug came after she found the messages. “Truly, the tipping point came when Lori found a bunch of text messages,” the friend shared. “Mossimo had used Lori for years. She was hoping maybe he would change when he got out of prison, but he got worse.”
Now, the still-adorable actress reportedly “wants to have nothing to do with” Giannulli. Instead, “She wants to get her life back.”
### Surviving Prison Sentences Together
The couple each served federal prison sentences in 2020 related to the notorious Operation Varsity Blues FBI investigation.
They allegedly paid $500,000 in bribes to secure their daughters Isabella, 27, and Olivia Jade, 26, spots at the University of Southern California as crew recruits, despite neither competing in the sport.
Rather than face trial, Loughlin pleaded guilty in May 2020 to conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. She was sentenced to two months in prison, fined $150,000, and ordered to complete 100 hours of community service.
Giannulli allegedly played a more active role in the scandal, receiving stiffer charges. He pled guilty to conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and honest services wire and mail fraud. The former clothing company owner served five months in federal prison, was fined $250,000, and completed 250 hours of community service.
Loughlin finished her sentence in December 2020, while Giannulli completed his time at a low-security facility in April 2021.
### Acting Return Helped Mend Marriage Initially
An insider revealed that their prison stints nearly destroyed their marriage due to the tension when they were released. Fortunately, Hollywood welcomed Loughlin back with open arms.
In December 2021, she returned to acting as a leading lady in *When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas*, a spinoff of *When Calls the Heart*. She continued to star in 2023 TV movies *Fall Into Winter* and *Blessing of Christmas*.
“If she hadn’t gotten acting work again, the whole house of cards would have collapsed,” the source said. “She would have held it against Mossimo if she hadn’t been taken back into the acting community.”
### Living Apart, No Divorce Filed Yet
Loughlin’s representative confirmed on October 2 that the couple is no longer living together but stressed there have been no separation or divorce filings at this time.
“They are living apart and taking a break from their marriage. There are no legal proceedings at this time,” the rep revealed.
Earlier this year, in February, the duo listed their Hidden Hills, California, mansion—purchased in 2020—for $16.5 million, signaling potential trouble in their marriage.
Currently, Loughlin is still residing in the Los Angeles area, while Giannulli is reportedly living in Sun Valley, Idaho.
