A ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 16 marked the formal opening of the new 70,000-square-foot health care hub of White Plains Hospital Physician Associates of Scarsdale. The facility is located in the former Lord & Taylor department store building in Eastchester.
The new center at 750 White Plains Road has a Scarsdale mailing address and offers advanced imaging and diagnostic services, as well as physician offices and exam rooms covering a wide range of specialties. Among the physicians practicing at this location are specialists in allergies, cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, pain management, pediatrics, internal medicine, urology, and more.
Patients can undergo various tests on-site, including echocardiograms, pulmonary function testing, and stress testing. Adjacent to the White Plains Hospital facility is a Burke Rehabilitation outpatient therapy center. Both Burke and White Plains Hospital are members of the Montefiore Health System.
Susan Fox, president and CEO of White Plains Hospital, shared her enthusiasm about the new facility. She explained that the development process faced some delays after the hospital initially arranged to lease space at the former Lord & Taylor building. However, when advised that additional space became available, the hospital expanded its plans to create a larger facility.
“We’re just so thrilled and so excited to have our staff working in a facility like this and, more importantly, to have our patients treated here,” Fox said. “So much work has gone into this; obviously it’s been reimagined. We all know this building as Lord & Taylor. It’s been a long road, but one well worth it.”
Frances Bordoni, the hospital’s executive vice president for ambulatory and physician services and development, highlighted the comprehensive care available under one roof. “This beautiful 70,000-square-foot facility is home to more than 40 doctors. We have every specialty you can imagine all right here,” she said.
“By expanding access to a broad range of specialties in one convenient location, we’ll be able to take care of our patients more easily. They can schedule appointments or referrals from their primary care doctor, as well as get imaging services like mammography or ultrasound, all done right here.”
Bordoni also reassured patients that the main hospital is just about four miles away in White Plains, ensuring inpatient or emergency services are readily available if needed.
Cardiologist Gregory Pontone, associate medical director of ambulatory quality and physician services at White Plains Hospital, illustrated the benefit of coordinated care at the new center. He asked attendees to imagine a patient visiting their primary care provider at the Eastchester facility.
“If the provider hears an irregular heartbeat or determines that additional imaging is necessary, cardiology and advanced imaging being just down the hall means the patient can often receive a quick consultation the same day, with a follow-up appointment scheduled before they leave,” Pontone explained. “That’s what timely coordinated care looks like, and it’s exactly what this center was designed to deliver.”
State Senator Shelley Mayer emphasized the patient-centered approach the new facility offers. “Patients want to feel that everyone is on their side and committed to caring for their health. Because of the comprehensive care here, patients can leave with that feeling,” she said.
“This is a game-changing experience for the patients we represent as elected officials — the opportunity to have the highest quality integrated care, a beautiful setting, and the assurance that health care is here to make us healthier and better, regardless of our circumstances.”
Eastchester Town Supervisor Tony Colavita expressed the town’s delight in welcoming White Plains Hospital Physician Associates of Scarsdale to the former Lord & Taylor site.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins praised White Plains Hospital’s work under the Montefiore Health System umbrella to ensure that excellent health care is available throughout Westchester County.
William Null, chairman of White Plains Hospital’s Board of Directors, highlighted the hospital’s commitment to delivering exceptional care. “Between this beautiful new Eastchester center and the ongoing hospital expansion in White Plains, it’s clear we are dedicated to providing the best health care services in the region with world-class physicians and programs,” Null stated.
