Chatsworth artist turns passion into purpose

CHATSWORTH, Calif. (KABC) — After a lifetime devoted to art, a Chatsworth artist is turning her passion into purpose. She is 83-year-old Maureen Gaffney Wolfson, who walked us through her beautiful gallery in Chatsworth. It’s full of 60 years- worth of art. “I paint stories of my life, my travels,” said Wolfson. “I paint flowers that were given to me as a gift sometimes. Whatever God puts in front of my eyes and says that’s a painting, I paint it.” While painting became her career, it also served as therapy, thanks to a friend who introduced it to her. “She saw my heartbreak. She said, Maureen, let’s go buy some paint,” she said. “And we did, and we went, and that’s how I started.” Now, after a successful career, she’s giving back. She recently opened her gallery for a fundraising event for fire victims, and now, she plans to sell her originals and use part of the proceeds to help kids find healing through art therapy. “It’s been in my heart for many years to want to do something for the younger generation,” she said. She herself went through trauma as a child and has a lot of life experiences to share with younger generations. Since her life is depicted on her canvases, she’s hoping the pieces end up with the right people. “I don’t have children. These are my children. And before I leave the planet, I want to make sure that they’re safe.”.
