GOG has made a name for itself over the years as one of the bastions of game preservation, in any form. While the Resident Evil games are widely available on various platforms, GOG made a concerted effort to ensure that the original games remain playable in their authentic forms.
Interestingly, securing the rights to offer Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 on GOG was not without its challenges. Marcin Paczynski, GOG’s senior business development manager, recently shared with The Game Business that Capcom was initially bewildered by the idea that there would be significant demand for the original versions of these classic games.
Despite the initial hesitation, the collaboration worked out very well for GOG. The games sold strongly and received very high user review ratings on the platform. For Paczynski, this success served as a meaningful validation of GOG’s commitment to game preservation and honoring the legacy of these iconic titles.
