Sardar Satyajit Singh Shergill, the father of Bollywood actor Jimmy Shergill, passed away on October 11 at the age of 90, according to a report by Film Information. The bhog and antim ardas ceremonies will be held on October 14 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Gurudwara Dhan Pothohar Nagar in Santacruz West, Mumbai. May his soul rest in peace.
**Family Background**
Satyajit Singh Shergill was born into a Sikh family from the village of Deokahia in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He is also the great-nephew of the late Amrita Shergill, one of India’s most celebrated women artists.
**Strained Relationship Over Tradition**
In a candid interview with *The Times of India*, Jimmy Shergill opened up about the strained relationship he shared with his father during his teenage years. Jimmy revealed that he wore a turban until the age of 18 but decided to cut his hair while staying in a hostel, citing practical difficulties in managing the turban.
He recalled, “Not just my parents, but my entire family did not talk to me properly for a year-and-a-half after that.” The decision marked a turning point in their relationship but Jimmy has since moved forward.
**Jimmy Shergill’s Recent Work**
On the professional front, Jimmy Shergill continues to be active in both films and web series. His latest Punjabi film, *Maa Jaye*, was released on August 29, 2025. In 2024, he appeared in the web series *Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond*, available on JioHotstar, and the Netflix thriller *Sikandar Ka Muqaddar*.
