Eli Lilly’s anti-obesity and diabetes drug, **Mounjaro**, has taken the Indian pharmaceutical market by storm. Within just six months of its launch, the drug has surged to become the second-best selling medication in India, riding the growing wave of demand for effective weight-loss therapies across the country.

### Market Performance

According to Indian Pharmaceutical Market (IPM) data, Mounjaro recorded sales worth ₹80 crore in September alone, contributing to a total revenue of ₹233 crore since its launch in late March. Remarkably, the drug’s sales grew by 43% from August to September, showcasing its rapidly increasing popularity.

Mounjaro is giving tough competition to GSK’s Augmentin, which currently leads the IPM with retail monthly sales of ₹85 crore. Market analysts credit Mounjaro’s success largely to its user-friendly pen formulation. Additionally, recent reductions in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) are expected to further accelerate its sales momentum in the coming months.

### Product Details

Mounjaro offers promising weight-loss efficacy, delivering results of up to 20-22%. The drug received a significant boost with the launch of its injectable **Kwikpens** in August. These disposable, pre-filled pens provide an easy and convenient mode of administration. The pricing for these pens ranges between ₹14,000 and ₹27,500, depending on the dosage.

### Sales Outlook

A major factor that could enhance Mounjaro’s adoption is the recent GST cut on chronic care medications from 18% to 5%, effective from September 22. This tax reduction has significantly lowered the financial burden on patients, making treatments more accessible.

With the combination of effective formulation, user convenience, and tax relief, Mounjaro is poised to maintain and potentially increase its strong sales trajectory in India’s pharmaceutical market.
