**Engine Fire on Rex Flight at Adelaide International Airport Causes Evacuation**
A fire broke out in the engine of a Rex flight at Adelaide International Airport on Wednesday, October 8. The incident occurred as Rex flight ZL4818 was preparing to depart Adelaide for Broken Hill.
Panic gripped the passengers when smoke began billowing from the plane’s left engine. Reports indicated that a fault indicator had signaled a problem with the left engine prior to the fire, according to 7 News. Although the engine was shut down promptly, fuel inside caught fire, resulting in visible flames.
The terrifying incident was captured on camera, and a video taken from inside the plane shows smoke and flames pouring out of the engine. Following the outbreak, the aircraft was immediately evacuated. Fortunately, all passengers are reported to be safe and were escorted back to the terminal. Meanwhile, the plane was returned to its bay for inspection and further action.
An Adelaide Airport spokesperson confirmed the situation, stating, “This morning, a Rex plane due to depart to Broken Hill reported a fault while on the runway and the plane was taken back to its bay.”
The runway was closed for approximately 20 minutes as a safety precaution, which temporarily impacted airport operations. “This impacted operations with the runway closed for about 20 minutes. Normal operations resumed at 8am,” the spokesperson added.
There have been no reports of injuries resulting from this incident.
This event comes shortly after a similar occurrence in August, when an international cargo flight from Kuala Lumpur experienced an engine fire during landing at Chennai. Airport officials reported flames in the aircraft’s fourth engine shortly before touchdown. Despite the alarming situation, the pilots maintained control and safely completed the landing without declaring an emergency.
Authorities continue to investigate the causes of these incidents to ensure passenger safety and prevent future occurrences.
