**Engine Fire on Rex Flight at Adelaide International Airport: Passengers Safe**
On Wednesday, October 8, a fire broke out in the engine of a Rex flight at Adelaide International Airport, causing panic among passengers and temporarily disrupting airport operations.
The incident occurred as Rex flight ZL4818 was preparing to depart Adelaide for Broken Hill. Passengers on board became alarmed when smoke began billowing from the plane’s left engine. According to reports from 7 News, a fault indicator had signaled a problem with the left engine prior to the fire.
Although the engine was shut down promptly, fuel inside ignited, resulting in visible flames. A terrifying video captured from inside the aircraft shows smoke and flames erupting from the engine. The plane was immediately evacuated, and all passengers were safely escorted back to the terminal.
An Adelaide Airport spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, “This morning, a Rex plane due to depart to Broken Hill reported a fault while on the runway and the plane was taken back to its bay.” Following the fire, the runway was closed for approximately 20 minutes, impacting airport operations. “Normal operations resumed at 8am,” the spokesperson added.
Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries related to the incident.
This is not the first such occurrence this year. In August, an international cargo flight from Kuala Lumpur experienced an engine fire shortly before landing in Chennai. Flames were spotted in the aircraft’s fourth engine, but the pilots maintained control and completed the landing safely without declaring an emergency, according to airport officials.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the engine fire on the Rex flight, ensuring safety protocols are reviewed and reinforced.
