**Zoho’s Arattai App to Introduce End-to-End Encryption for Text Chats**
*By Mudit Dube | Oct 07, 2025*
Zoho, the Indian tech giant, is set to enhance the security of its messaging platform, Arattai, by introducing end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for text messages. This was revealed by Zoho CEO Mani Vembu in an interview with Moneycontrol.
Currently, Arattai offers a “secret chat” option that allows users to enable encryption for private conversations. However, this feature is not enabled by default yet. Vembu assured that the entire team is focused on making end-to-end encryption available to all users soon, making secure communication the norm rather than the exception.
### Addressing Security Concerns
The upcoming rollout of encrypted text messaging comes in response to user concerns about Arattai’s existing security measures. While Zoho has confirmed that voice and video calls on Arattai are already protected by end-to-end encryption, text messaging will join in bringing the platform on par with global standards set by popular apps like WhatsApp and Signal, which have long championed encryption as a core feature.
### A Local Alternative Supporting India’s Digital Sovereignty
Developed in-house by Zoho, Arattai is part of the company’s initiative to provide secure, locally developed alternatives to foreign digital services. Launched in early 2021, Arattai aims to be a privacy-focused communication tool that caters to both personal and professional needs.
The app has gained renewed attention amid growing calls for greater digital sovereignty and enhanced data privacy within India. With over two decades of engineering expertise backing its development, Arattai continues to evolve to meet these demands.
### Government Endorsements Boosting Credibility
Arattai’s profile has been significantly bolstered by public endorsements from prominent Union ministers including Ashwini Vaishnaw, Dharmendra Pradhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Piyush Goyal. These endorsements support Arattai as an indigenous alternative to large foreign tech platforms, aligning with Zoho’s philosophy of data sovereignty and user control.
Zoho hosts all user data within India and operates without reliance on ad-based monetization or third-party tracking, further strengthening user trust.
### Focus on Security and User Trust
Mani Vembu emphasized that despite the surge in interest and growing user base, the Arattai team remains committed to enhancing the product’s core technology rather than rushing updates. “Security and user trust are at the heart of everything we do,” he said.
Once end-to-end encryption for text chats becomes the default, all forms of communication on Arattai—including voice, video, and text—will be protected, ensuring that not even Zoho can access users’ private messages.
This upcoming upgrade marks a significant step forward for Arattai as it continues to establish itself as a secure, trusted, and proudly Indian messaging platform.
