Uttar Pradesh’s SRLM Empowers Rural Women with Eco-Friendly Festive Products Ahead of Diwali
Lucknow: Under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Uttar Pradesh’s State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) has launched an extensive initiative to promote women’s self-reliance ahead of the Diwali festival.
Rural women’s self-help groups (SHGs) are actively producing a range of eco-friendly products including diyas, candles, idols, and festive hampers. These efforts have sparked strong interest among both rural and urban consumers, highlighting the growing demand for sustainable and handcrafted festive items.
According to Mission Director Deepa Ranjan, thousands of group members are crafting designer diyas, candles, and other festive products tailored to market preferences. The product line features unique items such as Ganesh-Lakshmi idols made from cow dung and “panchgavya,” along with visually appealing beeswax candles—all completely environment-friendly.
To enhance the visibility and reach of these products, SRLM is preparing a coffee-table book that will showcase SHG-made goods for both national and international audiences. Furthermore, these products have been registered on various online sales platforms to expand their market access and attract a wider customer base.
District officials have also been directed to set up dedicated stalls for SHG products at marketplaces and government offices, aiming to maximize sales and bring these eco-friendly festive items closer to consumers.
Mission Director Deepa Ranjan emphasized that this initiative goes beyond promoting eco-conscious celebrations; it is a powerful step toward empowering thousands of rural women to attain financial independence and boost their self-confidence.
