Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently conducted an inspection of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project in Gujarat’s Surat district. Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he described it as “really good” and provided key updates on the project’s timeline and features.
### Surat-Bilimora: The First Operational Stretch
The first operational stretch of the high-speed rail corridor will be between Surat and Bilimora. Minister Vaishnaw confirmed that this section is likely to be ready and functional by 2027, marking a significant milestone in India’s bullet train journey.
### Unique Technologies Incorporated
During his visit, Vaishnaw highlighted that the project incorporates “several unique technologies” which could have wider applications in other infrastructure developments across the country. While specific technologies weren’t detailed, this innovation promises to boost the efficiency and safety of high-speed rail operations.
### Station Design and Features
All bullet trains, once the entire corridor is completed, will stop at Surat station. The station itself has been thoughtfully designed to handle high passenger volumes and train traffic efficiently, featuring two tracks on either side and two tracks in the center, along with a spacious concourse area for passengers.
Minister Vaishnaw remarked, “If you look at the station, there is a specialty there too,” emphasizing the modern architectural and structural features implemented in its design.
### High-Speed Specifications
The bullet trains on this corridor will operate at speeds ranging between 320 to 340 km/h, poised to revolutionize transportation infrastructure in India. The high-speed rail turnouts have been specially engineered to accommodate these speeds safely and smoothly.
### Conclusion
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw concluded his visit by reaffirming the timeline: “The first section of Surat to Bilimora will become operational in 2027,” signaling a major step forward in India’s ambitious high-speed rail program.
