Footage showed Donald Trump angrily waving his finger at Melania, who responded by shaking her head, as their helicopter, Marine One, landed at the White House. Inside the chopper, the couple sat across from each other, deeply engaged in what appeared to be a passionate discussion.
However, their demeanor quickly shifted once they exited Marine One. They put on smiles, held hands, and waved to the reporters gathered on the lawn.
### Lip-Reader Reveals Topic of Argument
While the exact nature of their conversation remained unclear, forensic lip-reader Jeremy Freeman told the *Daily Mail* that Trump’s frustration was directed not at Melania but at a series of malfunctions during his UN address. According to Freeman, Trump was complaining about “three sinister events”: a broken teleprompter, sound issues during his speech, and, most notably, an escalator that abruptly stopped when he stepped on it.
“From my interpretation, I don’t think Donald Trump was having a go at Melania Trump — but at the shenanigans at the UN,” Freeman explained.
Freeman added that the couple was still worked up over the escalator incident. Melania reportedly reminded Trump, “You just continued,” to which he allegedly responded, “It was unbelievable. How can you do that?” As they walked across the lawn, Melania was seen seemingly telling her husband, “Donald, look at me.”
### Trump Calls for Investigation Into Escalator Incident
President Trump has demanded a full investigation into those responsible for the escalator malfunction at the United Nations headquarters, which forced the first couple to climb the stairs.
UN security staff have been accused of deliberately interfering with the escalator to “embarrass” the president. The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 24, when Trump—who reportedly suffers from swollen ankles—and Melania had to ascend to the second floor on foot.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed outrage on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the president and first lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately.”
