Princess Anne Addresses Challenges Faced by Naval Families During Visit to Naval Children’s Charity
Princess Anne recently made an unplanned speech during her first visit to the Naval Children’s Charity in Portsmouth, a role she inherited from her late mother, Queen Elizabeth. During the visit, the Princess Royal toured the charity’s facilities that provide essential support to young people from Royal Navy families, focusing on their wellbeing and development.
Acknowledging the unique difficulties faced by families of those who serve in the Royal Navy, Princess Anne said, “This is about families of people who serve, and that is a difficult relationship sometimes, but it needs to be remembered and is at the forefront of what you do.”
She further highlighted the additional strain these families endure: “When you’re as scattered as the Naval families are, that can be a real challenge in a way that nobody else quite has.” Expressing heartfelt recognition for the charity’s work, she added, “Thank you for maintaining that link.”
The Princess Royal assumed the role of patron of the Naval Children’s Charity in March, succeeding her late mother who supported the organization for an impressive seventy years. The charity plays a crucial role, providing aid to thousands of young people each year. Its support includes crisis grants for families facing illness, disability, or mental health challenges, as well as wellbeing resources and educational opportunities through its Life Chances Programme.
Princess Anne’s engagement in Portsmouth was part of a notably busy day. Alongside her visit to the charity, she also officially opened an education centre at Victoria Barracks on the Isle of Wight and made an appearance at the Southampton International Boat Show.
