Microsoft has officially confirmed a new initiative called the Windows AI Labs program, aimed at testing experimental artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features within its Windows operating system.

The program was first discovered by Windows testers who noticed references to it in pre-release updates for Microsoft Paint last week. This new initiative marks a significant step in Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to enhance Windows with AI capabilities.

**What is Windows AI Labs?**

Windows AI Labs is designed to give users early access to innovative AI features coming to Windows. According to Mike Harsh, Partner Director of Product Management at Microsoft, “The Windows AI Lab is a pilot acceleration program for validating novel AI feature ideas in Windows.”

The key objective of the program is to gather quick and valuable feedback from users regarding the usability of these features and the level of interest they generate.

**Testing Ground for New AI Features**

While Microsoft has not yet revealed the exact features that will be tested under the Windows AI Labs program, the company has been actively integrating AI functionalities into its suite of apps.

Recent additions include free AI tools in Notepad, image generation capabilities in Paint, and AI-driven actions in File Explorer. Additionally, Paint has received Photoshop-like enhancements such as transparency support and layering features.

Through Windows AI Labs, Microsoft aims to refine these innovative features based on user input before potentially rolling them out more broadly.

This initiative highlights Microsoft’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence to improve user experience across Windows, promising more intelligent and creative tools in the near future.
