Uber has introduced an exciting new feature: prepaid passes designed to help customers save money on their frequently traveled routes. These passes are available in bundles of five, 10, 15, or 20 rides, offered at discounted prices that range from 5% up to 20%, depending on the number of rides purchased in advance.
**How Prepaid Passes Work**
When purchasing prepaid passes, customers select a one-hour request window during which they typically book rides. Uber then displays a countdown to show how many passes remain. This makes it easier for riders to manage their commute plans while taking advantage of discounted fares.
**Pricing and Marketing Approach**
Uber’s marketing strategy highlights the cost benefits of buying prepaid passes compared to single rides. For example, a trip from Lower Manhattan to Midtown in New York normally costs around $19, but during surge pricing, fares can spike to $30 or more. With prepaid passes, customers avoid paying these higher surge prices, as their rides are covered by the passes purchased in bulk.
**Availability**
This prepaid pass feature has been launched in 75 cities across the U.S., including Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and more.
**Expansion of Price-Lock Feature**
In addition to prepaid passes, Uber is expanding its price-lock feature. For a monthly fee of $2.99, riders can lock in prices for up to 10 routes. Should the upfront cost at the time of booking be lower than the locked-in price, customers will pay the lower fare instead.
Initially available in select cities, the price-lock feature is now accessible in every major U.S. city and in Brazil, offering greater fare predictability and savings to frequent riders.
With these new options, Uber aims to provide more affordable and flexible ride choices to its customers nationwide.
