**Accenture Plans to Create 12,000 Jobs in Andhra Pradesh**

Accenture, a leading global tech consultancy firm, has proposed setting up a new campus in Andhra Pradesh as part of its strategy to expand its workforce in India by approximately 12,000 employees. This move follows similar initiatives by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Cognizant, taking advantage of a new state government policy that offers land at the highly subsidized rate of just ₹0.99 per acre for companies that commit to creating jobs.
**Proposal Details**
Accenture’s proposal, currently under review by the Andhra Pradesh government, requests about 10 acres of land in Visakhapatnam. The company seeks the land on terms aligned with those granted to other IT firms under the state’s new policy. India already serves as Accenture’s largest employee base worldwide, with over 300,000 of its total 790,000 employees working in the country.
**Government Response**
An official from the Andhra Pradesh government expressed enthusiasm about bringing Accenture to the state. Although approvals may take some time, the official expects the proposal to be cleared soon. Commenting anonymously, the official stated, “It is not an unreasonable ask by Accenture, and the proposal will go through.”
**Investment Details**
While the precise investment amount Accenture plans to make for its new campus remains undisclosed, past examples provide context. TCS and Cognizant have already secured land leases under this policy for their Visakhapatnam campuses, which are expected to generate approximately 20,000 jobs combined. Cognizant is set to invest $183 million, while TCS has allocated just over $154 million for its facility.
**Trend of Tech Expansion into Tier-2 Cities**
The expansion of tech firms into smaller Indian cities like Visakhapatnam is a growing trend. Companies are motivated by lower land prices, reduced rent, and decreased wage costs in these regions. Additionally, the post-pandemic work environment has made it easier for firms to hire local talent in Tier-2 cities, reversing the traditional migration pattern where employees moved to major tech hubs.
With Accenture’s planned entry, Andhra Pradesh is poised to strengthen its position as a significant IT destination, creating numerous employment opportunities and fostering economic growth in the region.
