Certain features will be exclusive to Pro subscribers, and others might require extra fees due to their high computational demands. This move reflects the company’s approach to balancing innovation with the resources needed to maintain cutting-edge AI models.
### Clarifying Access Challenges
Altman emphasized that these decisions are not intended to restrict access permanently. Instead, they serve to explore the capabilities of today’s models when pushed to their computational limits.
“We want to learn what happens when we throw a lot of compute at interesting new ideas,” said Altman. He stressed that the long-term goal remains to reduce the cost of intelligence as aggressively as possible, making AI more accessible over time.
### New Compute-Intensive Offerings on the Horizon
OpenAI is set to roll out new compute-intensive AI offerings soon, which will initially be available only to Pro subscribers due to the significant associated costs.
Launched last year, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro subscription provides researchers and developers with scaled access to the company’s most powerful AI models, including GPT-5 Pro. This advanced version is designed to handle complex tasks with improved accuracy and reasoning.
