The late singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away recently at the age of 52, had expressed a heartfelt wish that his iconic song *Mayabini* be sung by people after his death. On Friday, Garg tragically died in Singapore following a seizure he suffered while swimming.
The popular 2001 track *Mayabini*, which also features vocals by Kalpana Patowary, held a special place in Garg’s heart. In an old video shared by Just Assam Things on Instagram, he called the song his “fantasy,” saying, “Ei gaan tu mur fantasy hoy. Moy jetia morim, gutei Axom’r ei gan tu gaabo lagibo” (This song is my fantasy. When I die, the entire Assam has to sing this song).
Further underscoring the significance of the song, in another clip posted by GPlus on Instagram, Garg said, “Moy morile eitu gaan he bajibo kintu” (When I die, this song should play). His words reflected the deep importance of *Mayabini* to both himself and his fans.
### Fans Fulfill Garg’s Final Wish
In a touching tribute, hundreds of fans gathered outside Zubeen Garg’s residence in Guwahati on Saturday and Sunday. Before his mortal remains were taken to Sarusajai Stadium for public homage, admirers paid their respects by coming together to sing *Mayabini*.
Videos shared across social media capture groups of fans singing the song with great emotion and devotion, beautifully fulfilling the late singer’s final wish.
### Clarifying the Circumstances of His Death
According to eyewitnesses, Garg had been swimming in Singapore with friends. They all wore life jackets and had returned safely to the shore on a yacht. However, Zubeen went back into the water to swim again, during which he suffered a seizure.
Zubeen Garg was not only a renowned singer and actor but also a philanthropist and the Cultural Brand Ambassador for the now-canceled North East India Festival scheduled for September 20-21 in Singapore.
His passing has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his fans and the music community, and the tribute through *Mayabini* stands as a heartfelt homage to his enduring legacy.
