MEA cautions Indian citizens over fake job offers in Iran

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued an important advisory following multiple reports of fake employment offers targeting Indian citizens in Iran. These fraudulent schemes have resulted in the kidnapping of Indians after they traveled to Iran under false pretenses.

According to the MEA statement, several Indian nationals were lured to Iran with promises of employment or assurances that they would be sent onward to third countries for work. However, upon arrival, these individuals were abducted by criminal gangs who then demanded ransoms from their families to secure their release.

In light of these incidents, the MEA has strongly cautioned all Indian citizens to exercise the “strictest vigilance” when dealing with such employment offers. It is important to note that the Government of Iran permits visa-free entry to Indians only for tourism purposes. Any agents promising visa-free entry into Iran for employment or other reasons may be collaborating with criminal networks.

Indian nationals are therefore urged not to fall prey to such deceptive offers. The MEA’s advisory aims to protect citizens from becoming victims of these dangerous traps.
