6-year-old boy killed Saturday in a hit-and-run in Pacific Beach

A 6-year-old boy riding his bicycle in Pacific Beach was struck and killed by a 32-year-old driver on Saturday afternoon.

According to San Diego Police, the boy was riding along Pacific Beach Drive and crossed an alley at Ingraham Street. The driver, who was turning left into the alley, struck him, knocking him off his bike.

After briefly stopping, the driver then accelerated down the alley and ran over the boy before fleeing the scene. The child was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Police located the vehicle in National City and arrested the driver. Investigators confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the incident.

The case is being investigated by the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division. The name of the driver has not been released.
