Wildest Beams

Ongoing artist Chris Jeffrey brings a welcome burst of light to midwinter with Textured Color, an illuminating exhibit at Shelburne’s ATM Gallery. Step inside the darkened space (no bank card required) to experience an explosive prism of color created on stucco-like surfaces by spotlights and glass optical filters. You can also view the exhibit after hours, when it brightens the surrounding parking lot.

In Session — Wednesday, 21

The Vermont Statehouse, affectionately known as “the People’s House,” opens its doors for the first concert in this season’s long-standing Farmers Night Concert Series. Celebrated singer-songwriter and guitarist Bob Wagner, bassist Josh Weinstein, and drummer Dan Ryan welcome the community right into the House chamber for an intimate night of folk, rock, blues, and soul under the golden dome.

Wing Men — Wednesday, 14

Wishing you’d flown south for the winter? Veteran father-and-son birders share stories of their own travels and prepare listeners to take flight themselves — covering everything from what to pack to the unexpected challenges they might face along the way.

Use Your Illusion — Thursday, 15 to Sunday, 18

“Magic” doesn’t begin to cover what’s in store at Wonders, a mesmerizing evening of storytelling and enchantment featuring world-renowned illusionist, mentalist, and all-around mindblower Scott Silven. Set at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in Hanover, N.H., Silven draws audience members in, seemingly reading their minds and leaving everyone wondering: How did he do that?

Moonlight Promenade — Friday, 16

Show winter who’s boss by gearing up for Torchlight Snowshoe, an outdoor adventure in the gloaming at Billings Farm & Museum in Woodstock. Snowshoe, ski, or stroll along a lit path through bucolic pastures while experts share insights about the land’s history and seasonal wildlife. Then, settle by the firepit for s’mores and cocoa as the moon rises overhead.

Weighty Words — Saturday, 17

Vermont Poet Laureate Bianca Stone launches her new collection, The Near and Distant World, with a community cocktail hour, reading, and discussion at Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater. As the creative director of the nonprofit Ruth Stone House — the Goshen property of her late grandmother, a former state poet laureate — Stone explores life with introspection, intimacy, and honesty.

Hot Fusion — Saturday, 17

Led by the eponymous pianist and composer, the Zaccai Curtis Quintet heats up the Vermont Jazz Center in Brattleboro with a vibrant blend of energetic Latin jazz and harmonically complex bebop. Touring behind Curtis’ Cubop Lives!, winner of the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album, the ensemble explores and expands on the roots of Afro-Cuban music with a mix of new and classic works.
