Ubisoft closes Halifax Studio weeks after unionization

Ubisoft has confirmed the closure of its Halifax Studio, the subsidiary responsible for developing *Assassin’s Creed Rebellion*. This announcement comes just weeks after the studio’s employees formed a union, though Ubisoft insists the shutdown is unrelated to the unionization effort.

In a statement provided to IGN, Ubisoft explained that the decision to close the Halifax Studio was driven by a desire to “streamline operations, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.” The company emphasized that the closure was not connected to the 61 employees who recently declared their intent to unionize under the Game & Media Workers Guild of Canada.

IGN also obtained a statement from the Halifax workers, reflecting their response to the studio’s closure. Further details on their perspective have yet to be widely reported.
