Netflix Games is once again scaling back its game development efforts, this time parting ways with Spry Fox, the studio behind the popular Cozy Grove series. However, Cozy Grove isn’t disappearing. Instead of shutting down the studio entirely, Netflix Games is selling Spry Fox back to its original founders, David Edery and Daniel Cook. The duo will continue to lead Spry Fox as it works on its next title, Spirit Crossing.
Unlike other studios such as Team Blue, which Netflix closed outright in October 2024, Spry Fox is being reacquired by its founders, allowing the studio to remain active. David Edery released a statement recognizing the significance of this transition.
Netflix originally acquired Spry Fox in 2022 during its aggressive push into the video game market. Under Netflix Games’ umbrella, Spry Fox launched the sequel to Cozy Grove, titled Camp Spirit, exclusively on mobile devices through the Netflix app.
Up until now, Netflix Games has also supported the development of Spirit Crossing, a 3D multiplayer life simulation game that the studio was preparing for an alpha playtest. With this reacquisition, Spry Fox’s founders will be able to continue the project independently and pursue their vision for the game’s future.
