What you should know about €7M ERC Plus grants

The European Research Council (ERC) will open its first call for larger €7 million grants across all research disciplines by June 2026. This announcement was made during a webinar dedicated to the new funding scheme, held on November 28.

The new scheme is part of a broader effort to make the EU more attractive to the world’s top scientists. These substantial grants will be provided as lump sums to projects lasting between four and seven years, marking a significant increase compared to the existing ERC grants. Currently, ERC Starting, Consolidator, and Advanced grants offer maximum funding ranging between €1.5 million and €2.5 million.

To support this initiative, the European Commission has allocated additional funding to the ERC. The funds will be sufficient to award 30 of these new large grants each year, with calls planned for 2026 and 2027. There is potential for more grants to be awarded depending on funding availability and demand.
