ATHENS 57, GILMER 49: David Richardson had a hand in three touchdowns, Julious Brewer added receiving and rushing scores and Emanuel Moore scored on offense and special teams to lead the Athens Hornets past the Gilmer Buckeyes in 4A Division II bi-district playoff action. Richardson completed 9 of 13 passes for 217 yards and two scores and rushed for 67 yards and a TD on 11 carries. Brewer caught four passes for 57 yards and a TD and rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on six carries. Moore hauled in three passes for 130 yards and a TD and returned a kickoff 73 yards for a score. Jabory Taylor led the Athens defense with 15 tackles and two sacks. Zade Taylor completed 33 of 43 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns and carried 16 times for 113 yards and three more scores in the loss for Gilmer. Solomon Jackson caught 13 passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns, and Tayveon Horne carried 16 times for 75 yards and a TD. GLADEWATER 56, MT. VERNON 22: Jeremiah Flanagan rushed for 211 yards, Anthony Sanchez returned two interceptions for touchdowns and the Gladewater Bears opened the Class 3A playoffs with a 56-22 win over Mount Vernon. Flanagan carried 20 times and scored once for the Bears. Achilles Hess rushed for 54 yards and a TD and tossed two touchdown passes. Carsin Cooper and Tray Watts both added rushing touchdowns, and Jakobe Crosby had a TD catch. Sanchez finished with eight tackles to go along with his two interception returns for scores. Mason Budro had 25 tackles, and Destin Sheridan added 18 tackles and an interception. Amarion Minter finished with four tackles and two sacks. COMMERCE 40, JEFFERSON 14: Aidan Brown tossed four TD passes and added 96 rushing yards for Commerce as the Tigers notched a 40-14 win over the Jefferson Bulldogs. Ky’Mani Graham added 73 yards on the ground for Commerce. Kobin Tomlinson rushed for 55 yards and Jacoby Morrow added 50 yards on the ground for Jefferson. Tomlinson passed for 156 yards and was picked off four times. Chance Washington went 3 for 3 passing for 53 yards and a TD. Jefferson led 7-0 early on a Washington to Travis Gray 32-yard touchdown pass, but Commerce tied it two minutes later on a Brown to Donovan Maria TD pass of 32 yards. Commerce went ahead for good with 3: 55 left in the first on an 11-yard TD pass from Brown to Brandon Anderson. Commerce extended the lead to 26-7 at halftime on a 27-yard run by Graham and a 12-yard pass from Brown to Malik Garcia. The lead went to 33-7 early in the third on a 1-yard TD run by Brown. Jefferson was able to cut into the lead with 5: 31 left in the third on a 2-yard run by Tomlinson, but Commerce ended the scoring late in the fourth on a 10-yard TD pass from Brown to Lukah Selvaggi. OVERTON 49, W. SABINE 20: JOAQUIN Rylan Holleman carried 12 times for 181 yards and five touchdowns, Gabe Miller carried 16 times for 160 yards and a score and the Overton Mustangs claimed a 2A-DII bi-district championship with a 49-20 victory over West Sabine on Thursday. The Tigers struck first but their initial 6-0 lead wouldn’t last long. The Mustangs were up 14-6 after one quarter, 22-14 at the break and 34-20 after the third. Holleman’s five rushing touchdowns marked not just a career high for the senior but a new Overton school record. He finished the night with five of 10 passes completed and eight tackles on defense. Miller was in on nine tackles and had three pressures, Justin Weir carried seven times for 58 yards and a touchdown, scored a two-point conversion and recorded 11 tackles, Brody Brown had 11 tackles and an interception along with a catch for 20 yards, Jacob Osburn made two catches for 29 yards along with eight tackles and a PD and Hunter Klima was in on eight tackles with a PD. West Sabine’s Jakobe Harris made 22 carries for 194 yards and two touchdowns and Kade Myrann had 13 carries for 84 yards and a score. QB Jaden Curtis was three of nine in the air for 48 yards and Kentzen McGown made three catches for 39 yards. Overton (7-4) will face Goldthwaite (8-3) in the Region III 2A-DII area championship. MOUNT ENTERPRISE 70, W. HARDIN 14: LUFKIN Kaegan Ash ran wild for 345 yards and scored five touchdowns, QB Joshua Bennett piled up 201 total yards with four touchdowns and the Mount Enterprise Wildcats dismantled West Hardin 70-14 in their 2A-DII bi-district playoff game on Friday. Mount Enterprise produced three first-quarter touchdowns, including an 11-yard keeper from Bennett and long 60-yard runs by both him and Ash. West Hardin briefly broke through with a touchdown early in the second-a 28-yard reception by Dmarques Guillory from QB Marcus Hashaw-but Mount Enterprise answered with a barrage of big plays. Ash made the field feel short no matter where the Wildcats started, exploding for touchdown runs of 57, 85, and 94 yards. Bennett completed a 52-yard touchdown pass to Ash, caught in triple coverage, and a 48-yard deep ball to Coy Freeman to help the Wildcats build an overwhelming 62-6 halftime advantage. Bennett, Aadin Alsup, Joel Otwell and Freeman added conversions throughout the half and Jase Webb stripped the ball from Guillory for a turnover. A running clock in the second half let Mt. Enterprise ease off the throttle, resting their starters while the younger backups took over. Ash’s 345 yards came on just 11 carries and also pushed him past the 10, 000 career rushing yards mark. He’s at No. 4 on the all-time career rushing list for Texas high school football with chances to climb even higher still to come. Bennett got 100 passing yards with two of four completions, carried four times for 101 yards and finished with four tackles and 1. 5 TFL. Alsup finished with four carries for 25 yards and Otwell had two carries for 46 yards. Yobany Rubio led in tackles with seven and Tanner Wilburn, Case Pieper and Freeman were each in on six tackles. The Wildcats recorded 14 TFL, led by Ash and Lucas Burkhardt with two each. Mt. Enterprise (11-0) faces Chilton (10-1) in the area round, a showdown between two of the state’s top-ranked 2A Division II squads. U. HILL 94, AVALON 60: E. J. Mowery had a hand in 12 touchdowns for Union Hill, scoring six times on the ground, tossing five TD passes and returning a kickoff 48 yards for a score as the Bulldogs earned a 94-60 Six Man playoff win over Avalon. Mowery carried 19 times for 260 yards and six scores and completed 13 of 20 passes for 228 yards and five touchdowns. Brent Lively had two catches for 53 yards and a TD. Jacob Brewster caught three passes for 45 yards and a score, and Payton Dunn had three catches for 84 yards and three TDs.
