Duke Bounces Back After WVU Loss, Beating Liberty 57-49

After the disastrous game against West Virginia earlier in the week, we weren’t sure what to expect at Liberty. However, it was clear that this matchup suddenly became very important. Duke came through, securing a solid 71-57 victory.

The Blue Devils forced 17 turnovers, including 9 steals, and shot an impressive 51.5% from the field. In the third quarter, Liberty cut the lead to 41-35, but Duke quickly rebuilt their advantage and pulled away, allowing Liberty to score only 7 points in the last 6 minutes and 12 seconds of the game.

This win was a strong response to the tough loss against West Virginia, which occurred after junior Jordan Wood taunted a Mountaineer as halftime began. Notably, Wood, who is normally a starter, did not play in this game. While no official explanation has been given, unless she is injured, it’s difficult to see her absence as anything other than a disciplinary measure.

Looking ahead, Duke will head south next for a game against South Florida on Thursday.
