At this point, few believe that Jonathan Smith will remain the leader of the Michigan State football program beyond the conclusion of the 2025 season. While no official decision has been made yet, speculation suggests it is more a matter of “when” rather than “if.”
Adding complexity to the situation are the recent sanctions imposed on Michigan State. These sanctions will place the Spartans on probation for the next three years and include some minor violation penalties. While these challenges could potentially hinder the program’s progress, some analysts see things differently.
FootballScoop, a leading source for coaching change news, recently mentioned the Michigan State coaching position in a post on X. They revealed that upon contacting an agent to inquire if Michigan State remains a desirable job, the response was overwhelmingly positive: “100%.”
For Spartan fans, this is encouraging news. Should Michigan State decide to move on from Smith, having a strong pool of coaching candidates would be a promising sign for the program’s future.
