MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Grayson Capps’ “My Body”

For his first original music in eight years, Grayson Capps makes a bold and brash move by stepping into the skin of a young Southern woman grappling with reproductive rights in crisis. “The seed of ‘My Body’ begins from her perspective,” says the Alabama-based troubadour.

During his extended break from songwriting, Capps focused on family matters when not performing. In 2020, he released *South Front Street*, a 16-song retrospective showcasing his journey. Then, in 2024, he followed up with *Heartbreak, Misery & Death*, a heartfelt collection of folk songs and traditionals originally performed by legends like Doc Watson, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Randy Newman. These songs were passed down to Capps by his father, who sadly passed away that same year.

As for “My Body,” it stands as a classic protest song—a powerful anthem for a world that could use many more voices like this right now. “It speaks for the tolerant and empathetic people of the world who are being pushed into a corner against their will, and the need to stand up to the forces of malevolence,” explains Capps.

We’re proud to premiere Grayson Capps’ “My Body.”
