Last year, Changpeng Zhao (also known as “CZ”), the founder of Binance—the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange—pleaded guilty to money laundering charges.
Last month, he was pardoned by former President Donald Trump. However, in a recent interview, Trump revealed that he has no idea who CZ is.
During an episode of *60 Minutes*, Trump admitted that he doesn’t know much about CZ, despite granting him a pardon just weeks ago. “Okay, are you ready? I don’t know who he is,” Trump said, as quoted by CNBC. “I don’t know the man at all. I don’t think I ever met him,” he added.
When asked how he came to pardon someone he doesn’t know, Trump explained that his decision was influenced by his family’s involvement in the cryptocurrency industry. “My sons are involved in crypto much more than I—me. I— I know very little about it, other than one thing. It’s a huge industry,” he said.
Trump also mentioned that he “was told” CZ was a victim of the Biden Administration, which played a role in his decision to issue the pardon.
