**Tracker Recap: “First Fire” – Season 3, Episode 3**
Tonight’s episode begins with an escaped patient. During a blackout at a psychiatric hospital, the power goes out, providing the perfect opportunity for a prisoner to make a break. That prisoner is Heston Koontz.
Heston is 29 years old, convicted over ten years ago for burning a family alive. He was recently moved to a low-level psychiatric facility because he was deemed no longer a threat—though only his parents disagreed with that decision.
Lawrence and Molly Koontz know their son all too well. They warned the authorities that Heston was dangerous, and sadly, they were right—he killed a nurse on the night of his escape.
The Koontz family shared that Heston appeared normal until high school, when he started acting out aggressively. He suffers from parasomnia, also called “waking nightmares,” which cause violent behavior. At one point, he killed the family dog.
Afterwards, Heston’s parents took him to therapy. Although the therapist reassured them that their son wasn’t dangerous as long as he remained medicated, they remained unconvinced.
Their concerns deepened when they discovered Heston’s journals. They revealed an obsession with a girl named Emily Collins, who was a year younger than him. Fearing for Emily’s safety, the parents tried reporting this to the police, but initially, their warnings were dismissed.
Tragically, it took Heston killing Emily’s family and attempting to abduct her before the police took the threat seriously. However, Heston was declared mentally unfit to stand trial and was sent to a maximum-security psychiatric facility.
Heston seemed compliant until he was transferred to a less secure location—where tonight’s escape occurred. Now, his worried parents have hired Colter Shaw to find him before more harm can be done.
Colter meets Detective Dundee on the case. Dundee is dismissive and condescending, underestimating Colter’s abilities. But Colter soon proves him wrong.
He discovers that Heston didn’t escape alone. Someone helped him. During the storm, the accomplice cut the electricity at the facility to create the perfect distraction. They also provided Heston with a keycard to get out.
The helper is revealed to be Bill Prugalildad—whose keycard Heston used on the night of his escape.
