du, one of UAE’s leading telecom and digital services providers, has launched its new Cloud Miner service, offering UAE residents the opportunity to mine cryptocurrency by renting computational power on a subscription basis. Leveraging its existing data centers across the country, du introduces this innovative cloud mining-as-a-service (MaaS) solution designed to pioneer sustainable crypto innovation.
Named “Cloud Miner,” this ICT infrastructure service is exclusively available to UAE residents and aligns with du’s commitment to transparency, security, and regulatory compliance. Customers interested in participating can bid through an online auction hosted on the Online Auction website, running from November 3rd to November 9th.
du’s cloud-as-a-mining service offers a cloud-based solution that simplifies the traditional crypto mining process. Users can mine cryptocurrencies, potentially earn Bitcoin rewards, and engage with the blockchain ecosystem without the typical challenges associated with hardware management, electricity costs, or maintenance. Mining operations can begin immediately after subscription, providing a seamless experience for clients.
Jasim AlAwadi, CICTO at du, highlighted the company’s goal to provide an easy entry point into the world of cryptocurrency. He said, “The service embodies our commitment to innovation, leveraging our robust data center skills and ICT infrastructure to secure a sustainable future for digital finance in the UAE.”
Du distinguishes its Cloud Miner service with competitive pricing and a transparent, no-hidden-fee contract valid for 24 months. Subscribers gain access to 250 TH/s capacity and can manage their crypto mining activities via an intuitive web application.
Security and regulatory adherence are key aspects of the service. du ensures compliance with KYC/AML regulations for high-value transactions using UAE Pass. Furthermore, account security is enhanced through two-factor authentication, reinforcing du’s dedication to providing a secure and trustworthy platform.
Adding to the announcement, Jasim AlAwadi stated, “The launch of Cloud Miner under sub-brand du Tech highlights du’s rich heritage in telecom. With du’s Cloud Miner, entering the cryptocurrency market has never been easier or more secure.”
### Corporate Bitcoin Mining in the UAE
The UAE is already witnessing significant corporate Bitcoin mining activity. Organizations like UAE Phoenix Group, which launched its IPO last year, and Marathon Digital, which partnered in 2023 with Zero Two (a subsidiary of the UAE sovereign wealth fund) to establish a Bitcoin mining facility in Abu Dhabi, are leading the charge. However, du’s Cloud Miner marks the first time a telecom operator in the UAE has entered this space.
On a global scale, similar initiatives are underway. For instance, Deutsche Telekom’s subsidiary MMS, in collaboration with Bankhaus Metzler, is piloting a Bitcoin mining infrastructure project that uses surplus energy, demonstrating a growing trend toward sustainable crypto mining.
