Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. channeled a Canadian sports hero ahead of Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Guerrero was spotted walking into the Rogers Centre wearing the jersey of Canadian women’s hockey star Marie-Philip Poulin. The slugging first baseman appeared focused as he prepared for the biggest game of his career.
Marie-Philip Poulin, a decorated athlete, boasts four Olympic gold medals, having led Team Canada to victories in 2010, 2014, and 2022. She also helped secure a silver medal in 2018. Beyond the Olympics, Poulin has earned four gold medals in world championships and currently plays for the Montreal Victoire in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
Poulin reacted to Guerrero’s tribute on her Instagram Stories with a heartfelt message: “Wow,” accompanied by a tearful emoji, followed by “Let’s go Blue Jays!”
It’s a do-or-die situation for both the Blue Jays and the Dodgers in Game 7, scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on FOX, with Max Scherzer taking the mound for Toronto and Shohei Ohtani pitching for Los Angeles.
Guerrero has been outstanding in the postseason, batting .412 with eight home runs and 15 RBIs. He currently leads all postseason players in RBIs and is tied with Ohtani for the most home runs.
