Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski and Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Andres Gimenez engaged in a heated exchange during the bottom of the fourth inning in Game 7 of the World Series.
Wrobleski pitched high and inside to Gimenez on two consecutive pitches, with the second pitch hitting Gimenez in the hand. The Blue Jays player was visibly upset and began to jaw at Wrobleski as he walked toward first base. Wrobleski responded, sparking a tense verbal exchange between the two.
The altercation quickly drew players from both teams out of the dugouts and bullpens. Wrobleski remained heated as he was escorted back to the mound, while Gimenez jogged toward first base still fired up. Umpire Jordan Baker stepped in and issued warnings to both teams. Fortunately, no players were ejected. Tyler Glasnow soon relieved Wrobleski to close out the inning.
Prior to the incident, Gimenez was struggling at the plate, going 3-for-23 in the World Series.
Wrobleski had been brought in to replace starter Shohei Ohtani. The Rogers Centre crowd was already energized after Blue Jays second baseman Bo Bichette blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning, which put Toronto ahead and forced Ohtani out of the game. The Dodgers managed to cut the deficit by one run in the top of the fourth inning.
