Tips, weapons, missions & how to play – Battlefield 6: REDSEC

Battlefield 6 REDSEC Mode Guide

Battlefield 6 introduces a brand-new mode called REDSEC, a fresh battle royale experience featuring multiple game modes, weapon rarity tiers, optional missions, and the classic encroaching ring of fire. There’s a lot to learn about REDSEC, so this guide will cover general tips, explanations of the mode, how to play, how reviving works, and much more.

What is REDSEC?

REDSEC is a free-to-play battle royale mode set within Battlefield 6. Players drop into a large map, search for weapons, complete optional missions to gain gear, and eliminate other players. Meanwhile, a ring of fire gradually forces players into smaller map areas. The game ends when only one player or team remains.

After selecting REDSEC, you can choose from three main versions:

  • Gauntlet: Focuses on completing objectives. You must finish missions to survive and keep going until only one player or team remains.
  • Duos: Classic battle royale with teams of two players. There are 50 teams in this mode.
  • Squads: Teams of four players battle it out. There are 25 teams in this mode.

What Should I Do First in REDSEC?

Your ultimate goal in REDSEC is to be the last person or team alive. Every action you take should serve that purpose. Here are some basic tips to get started:

  1. Land in a location with few or no other teams. This gives you a safer start.
  2. Loot crates to find weapons and gear such as grenades and airstrikes.
  3. Select and complete optional missions to earn powerful gear rewards.
  4. Stay ahead of the encroaching NXC ring of fire by moving toward the center of the next safe circle.
  5. Engage other players strategically or avoid conflict when necessary.

Focus on pressing forward into the next circle whenever the fire gets close. The ring will continue shrinking until only a small area remains, barely large enough for two teams. While moving, scavenge for gear or complete missions to upgrade your loadout. Deal with threats as they arise.

How Weapons & Gear Work in REDSEC

REDSEC starts you off with just a pistol and a knife. The frantic scramble for weapons begins the moment you land, and you’ll want to find one that suits your chosen class.

Weapons are ranked by a color-coded rarity scale (from lowest to highest):

  • Common – Gray
  • Uncommon – Green
  • Rare – Blue
  • Advanced – Purple
  • Superior – Gold

There is an additional special category:

  • Personal Favorite – Red

The more attachments a weapon has, the better it performs, and the higher its rarity tier. You don’t have to rely solely on luck to get better weapons; you can upgrade your guns to improve their rarity — turning a green gun into a blue one, and so forth.

Before you unlock purple or red weapons, keep an eye out for weapon containers scattered around the map. These include crates, cases, and safes found on the ground, inside cars, and other vehicles.

Choosing a weapon that fits your class is important. For example, a sniper rifle won’t be very effective if you’re playing as Assault.

What Are Red Guns?

Red guns are your custom favorite weapons that you have created outside of matches. These are weapons you’ve upgraded, attached mods to, and fine-tuned to your playstyle. These are your go-to loadouts in the main Battlefield 6 multiplayer mode.

You can acquire red weapons in REDSEC by finding Custom Weapon Drops on the map. These look like torpedo- or missile-shaped pods sticking out of the ground. Interact with the drop to browse your favorite weapons and select one to collect.

The effectiveness of the red weapon depends on how extensively you have upgraded it. Sometimes it could outperform purple or gold weapons; other times, it might not.

Which Class Should You Play in REDSEC?

When you launch REDSEC, you can select your class. Similar to Battlefield 6’s main multiplayer, each class has unique weapons, tools, and benefits. For example, the Engineer starts equipped with a blowtorch that can open safes.

In an ideal squad, you’ll have a blend of classes to cover different roles and capabilities.

How Does Reviving Work?

When you lose all your armor and health in REDSEC, you’ll drop to the ground and crawl into a safe spot if possible. An ally can revive you during this downed state. There is a timer counting down while you are downed — once it reaches zero, you die permanently. Enemies can also finish you off by shooting you.

REDSEC features a forgiving revive system early in the match. If you die early, you can parachute back into the fight and rejoin your squad. As the match progresses, players are notified when “no more second chances” remain, meaning death becomes more permanent.

Once second chances expire, you must bring downed teammates back to life at designated redeploy points. This process takes time and triggers an audio alarm alerting nearby players, so use caution.

What Are Missions?

Every few minutes, REDSEC offers players a choice of missions. Completing a mission grants you rewards airdropped at your location, which may include better weapons, equipment like airstrikes, or even keycards granting access to tanks.

Typical missions involve traveling to specific locations, destroying targets, carrying items, or transmitting data. After starting a mission, on-screen icons and brief task descriptions will help guide you.

Many missions require PvP engagement, adding additional challenges and excitement.

Whether you prefer intense PvP, tactical objectives, or teamwork, REDSEC provides plenty of depth for all kinds of players.

Remember to choose your landing spots carefully, upgrade your gear, pick your class wisely, and keep moving with the shrinking safe zone to maximize your chances of victory!
